Solaria Energía y Medio Ambiente has obtained favourable Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) for the installation of approximately 1 GWh of battery storage at 16 photovoltaic plants located in Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León. This new regulatory milestone reinforces the company’s renewable asset hybridisation strategy and consolidates its position as one of the leading integrated generation and storage operators in Europe.
With this new authorisation, Solaria now has almost 3 GWh of storage capacity with environmental approval in Spain, representing a decisive step forward in its roadmap to integrate large-scale flexibility into its solar generation portfolio. These authorisations are in addition to the 780 MWh at the Garoña complex (710 MW) and the 908 MWh from 11 plants in Castilla la Mancha and Castilla y León previously approved, strengthening an industrial model based on the combination of renewable generation, storage and asset digitalisation.
The deployment of these batteries will increase the manageability of solar plants, optimise the production curve, reduce spillage and actively participate in the balancing and flexibility services markets, thus contributing to the stability of the electricity system. Storage is a key element in maximising operational efficiency and diversifying revenue sources in an energy environment increasingly geared towards the massive penetration of renewables.
Arturo Díaz-Tejeiro, CEO of the company, said: ‘Obtaining almost 3 GWh with environmental authorisation marks a turning point in our storage strategy. We are building a more flexible, resilient energy platform that is prepared for an increasingly renewable electricity system.’
With this new milestone, Solaria continues to accelerate its strategic plan, combining large-scale solar generation, stand-alone storage projects and energy solutions linked to new industrial hubs and sustainable data centres, consolidating its leadership in the European energy transition.
