On 20 June 2022, Solaria became a trustee of the Elcano Royal Institute, during the meeting of the Board of Trustees chaired by His Majesty the King.
Since its inception in 2002, Solaria has specialised in renewable energies and, more specifically, in the implementation and development of solar photovoltaic technology, and is currently a leading company in the development and management of solar photovoltaic plants in Europe.
In line with the 2030 Agenda, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the European Union’s Green Pact, Solaria’s objective is to install 18 GW of emission-free energy by 2030, in order to contribute to both the decarbonisation of society and its electrification, providing cheap and safe electricity supply to citizens, as it is generated thanks to an abundant natural resource: solar radiation. In fact, the company already has 2,057 MW in operation and under construction and continues its international growth, with a focus on southern Europe. In Portugal, the company has 63 MW in operation and under construction, and 440 MW under development. In Italy, Solaria has opened a new headquarters in Rome to achieve the objectives of its strategic plan: to build 5 GW in the Italian Peninsula by 2030.
Enrique Díaz-Tejeiro, Chairman of Solaria, said that “it is an honour for Solaria to be part of one of the most relevant think tanks in the world. By joining the Board of Trustees, Solaria supports the professionals that make up this prestigious institution, who contribute ideas that promote, with rigour and independence, fundamental aspects such as environmental sustainability, energy security and the strengthening of democracy, among other important issues that, today more than ever, require global responses”.
The Board of Trustees of the Elcano Royal Institute, whose Honorary President is H.M. the King, is its highest governing body, ensures the fulfilment of the mission and objectives of the institution and exercises the highest powers of representation, governance and administration of the Foundation.
The Board of Trustees is made up of the presidents of the companies and organisations that are Trustees of the Elcano Royal Institute, as well as the former Prime Ministers (Felipe González, José María Aznar, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Mariano Rajoy), the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Defence, Culture and Sport, Economy and Business, and a trustee proposed by the main opposition party.
Also participating as elected members are representatives of the Spanish academic, cultural and social sectors and former ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence.
