Solaria and the Basque Energy Agency obtain favourable environmental impact statements for its Vitoria 1 and Vitoria 2 plants of 100 MW in total

September, 20 2023

Solaria and the Basque Energy Agency under its company Indarberri, have obtained favourable environmental impact statements (EIS) for their photovoltaic plants Vitoria 1 and Vitoria 2 with a total capacity of 100 MW.

These plants, located in Arratzua-Ubarrundia, Elburgo/Burgelu and Vitoria Gasteiz, will generate green energy for more than 30 years and will avoid the emission of 50,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere annually. The generation of these photovoltaic plants will be able to supply 60,000 homes per year. Furthermore, this energy will be available to companies in the Basque Country at very competitive prices.

Solaria is firmly committed to the Basque Country. The Vitoria 1 and Vitoria 2 photovoltaic plants are the first two parks in the portfolio of projects that Solaria will develop in the Basque Country in the coming years. The company’s objective is to replace polluting energies with other renewable alternatives and to lead the energy transition.

Similarly, Solaria has created a Basque company, Solaria Eguzki Sorkuntza, based in the Álava Technology Park, which currently has 20 employees, although the team is expected to continue to grow in the coming months.
These photovoltaic parks fit in with the Basque Country Energy Strategy 2030, and help to meet one of the most challenging objectives set out in the strategy, which is to achieve a 21% share of renewable energies in final energy consumption by the end of the decade.

In the words of the Director General of the Basque Energy Board (EVE), Iñigo Ansola, the approval of these Environmental Impact Statements „indicates that we are on the right track to achieve a future based on clean, green and sustainable energy, thanks to this type of project that not only helps us to fight climate change, but also allows us to lower electricity prices, both for households and industry“.
„The achievement of these environmental permits is a great milestone for us. The Basque Country has great potential for the development of photovoltaic solar energy and we, together with the EVE and the support of the region, want to be part of this change“, says Darío López, Solaria’s General Manager.
